How to Choose Your Blog Niche

How to Choose Blog Niche

Starting a new blog? Great!
Everybody has their own perspective and consider different things to be done at first like some people will say you should choose your platform for blogging first and some would say Decide the name of your blog first etc.

I would say decide your niche first. If you don’t know what you want to write. How would you decide your platform or blog name? so what is a niche?

In simple words, you can say a niche is the field of your interest and you want to write in. take a short example that you love to travel so you can have a travelling niche blog.  Where you can tell people about different places. Same as if you are a food lover you can have a food blog too.

These are single niche blogs. You can also have a blog with a combination of a food blog and a travel blog. It is called a Multi-niche blog.

You can have more than one interests and can work on more than one niche but having a niche or passion is not enough, for a successful blog you need a profitable niche.
This is the first and most important step while building a blog. If you successfully choose a perfect niche, it's easy to make your place in the market. If you pick up trending and high competition niche, unluckily your blog will appear nowhere, if you pick up the low competition niche with less demand then, unfortunately, the same thing gonna happen so it’s important to consume some time on this step. Opens your mind, try to think out of the box and choose a perfect niche which is not high nor less demanded

Once you get a perfect niche you can easily make a place for your blog. Choosing a niche involves different steps.

Think about your interest.

Most of the people start blogging but soon lost interest in it. To overcome this problem, while choosing a niche you should think what to like, what you want to talk about. Do brainstorming and list out all your interests. Then look for a profitable one. If you choose to talk about your interest then you will never get bored.

The topic could be related to your work or any hobby or something you always want to talk about or do, or about your favourite place or country, or it can also about food. Like it can be anything you like. Just think about yourself. Now how to know you figured out the best topics, take a look at each and try to draw at least 7 blog articles out of it. It’s not important to choose just one topic, we have further steps to process your data and retrieve useful information out of it. When you are done with a set of perfect topics lets move forward to the next step.

 Market research:

Now when you are ready with a list, its time to take a view at the market. You can check what is trending on google and try to make its connection with your selected topics. Like you love sketching and you search about it on google. Check the suggestions first what other people are searching.

You can add any other keyword along with your search too. Results would be different. You can also search on Google Trends

Google Trends is an amazing website for this purpose. It provides you with multiple options like

  1.     You can compare two keywords.
  2.     You can search worldwide or in any specific country.
  3.     Check for the particular period.
  4.     Keyword search through different categories.
  5.     This graph shows the interest of people over the last 12 months in sketching

Competition in your niche:

This is an important step as we discuss earlier that you have to choose a niche with nor too high neither too low competition. So here lets we take a look at how to check the competition for your topic.
First and the simplest option we all have is Google Search. It shows how much work has been done and how many webpages are already present related to your keyword.

Wow-what a result :p

At this point, if you want some suggestions then just go at the bottom of the page and check out the related search suggestions there.

You can pick from these or try something else.

Secondly, you can use any website for keyword competition search. Mine favourite is Google Keyword Planner.

Here we can see the monthly average searches of your keyword and its market competition.

For keyword sketch, average monthly searches are between 10k to 100k and competition is quite low. Searches are perfect but we need a medium competition keyword.

Final step:

The final step is to check either the niche is profitable or not. For this check either your topic has Ads results. Like people are spending money on advertising your niche or not. If yes then you are done with your research and got your niches but if no then repeat the process. It is a time taking process but you need to be patient because if you do not do it properly it will still work but will take a lot of time.

So grab a mug of coffee, sit in a silent room and work with focus. Few popular niche ideas are as follows.

  • Travel blog.
  • Lifestyle blog.
  • Fashion blog.
  • Food blog.
  • Health and fitness blog.
  • Tech and gaming blog.
  • Personal life experiences blog.
  • DIY or craft ideas blog.
  • Educational blog. Etc

There are much more if we go in details. You have to find a niche which makes you happy
